Rick Croker Best Practices ShanghaiCourse Chair: Rick Croker. As Director of Technical Services for Atlanta-based Georgia-Pacific Containerboard LLC, Richard “Rick” Croker is responsible for setting all product specifications for the company's containerboard mills. The Technical Services department investigates and responds to product and freight damage complaints from GP mills and customers. In addition, the department provides GP's box plants, US and export customers with technical engineering assistance and training on corrugators and presses. 
Rick is an analytical trouble-shooter experienced in determining the causes of quality assurance, mechanical and operational issues. He also serves as an instructor to Corrugator and Press/Finishing crews, foremen, maintenance, manufacturing trainees, laboratory technicians and box salesmen. He performs/teaches corrugator and press engineering audits, equipment upgrades, preventative maintenance techniques, adhesive formulations, equipment productivity upgrades, waste reduction, Centerlining and more. In the past Rick has worked as a Senior Research Scientist, Field Engineer, Director of Technical Services-Containerboard. 
Since first joining TAPPI in 1975, Rick published more than 25 technical papers on all aspects of the corrugated industry and co-authored 16 TIPs for TAPPI's Corrugated Packaging Division (CPD). Over the years he has received numerous CPD TAPPI Awards, and introduced the industry to a range of easy-to-use preventive maintenance checklists in English, Spanish and Chinese. He was selected in 1994 for TAPPI's Bettendorf Award for Technical Service, as well as Boxboard Container's Top 50 20th Century Leaders of the Box and Carton Industry in 2000. In 2005 Rick was named a TAPPI Fellow.

CloseSeminar Faculty: Greg Close has worked in corrugating plants as an engineer for over 40 years.  He worked for Mitsubishi Heavy Industries for ten years as designer and customer service manager for their corrugators.  His father was a designer and customer service manager for Langston.  He has been working for Jasol Asia Pacific, previously known as Love Starches, since 1988 and was with MHI for ten years before that.  He is in charge of product development, research and development, sales and application training as well as being a company director at Jasol Asia Pacific Limited.   Close will present on corrugator adhesive, what it is and how it is put together and used, followed by the types of caustic and borax around Asia and the general amount of starch/caustic and borax used for corn and tapioca starches.  email: gregclose2012@gmail.com

Nat Lewis, has worked in the paper and pulp industry for over 20 years.  Mr. Lewis started with a U.S. based trading firm, which brought him to his first job in August of 1999, to open the first Shanghai office for Metsa Serla, (now Metsa Board).  Shortly after this move, Nat was assigned as the Managing Director of Price & Pierce China until the end of 2000.  In 2001, Nat started his own trading company which operated until the end of 2005.  In 2006, Nat joined Price & Pierce after P&P became a Gould Paper company and worked with them until his move to Georgia Pacific in November 2013.

Steve headshotSteve Nerney is a mechanical engineer with a Masters in Business Administration and 32 years of industry experience.  His is currently Installation and Training Leader for MarquipWardUnited.  Prior roles include plant engineer, plant superintendent and production manager for Inland Container and Gaylord Container Plants.  
Mr. Nerney will be presenting strategies, tips and tactics for high speed consistent splicing performance and care of corrugating rolls.

Bill Chen is Albany Internationals Application Engineer. He is a service and troubleshooting expert and has been in the corrugator industry for over 8 years. He has an extensive background in technical, application services for the China and South East Asian marketplace.

WangJoe Wang is an industrial sales director of rotary joint at the Kadant Johnson (Wuxi) Technology Ltd. He has 23 years of experience in rotary joints & syphons.  He worked eight years as a designer in the engineering department then changed to the sales department, progressing from salesman to sales manager and then  sales director in Kadant Johnson China. He will introduce different rotary joints and syphons for different speed corrugating rolls especially for high speed corrugating lines.

Frank Lin is Albany Internationals Area Sales Manager for China and South East Asia. He has been with Albany for over 10 years and is responsible for Corrugator sales and marketing as well as OEM account management.

ZhangYong Zhang has over 25 years of experience in the corrugated industry, including nine years as senior field service engineer for Marquip where his responsibilities included the installation of machines, training customers to use machines, and field service for customers. He also worked or Montebello Container and the Newark Group, where he led the maintenance teams in keeping corrugated and paper machines running well under safe conditions and developed or upgraded the production line to meet new customer requirements.  Currently, he serves as a reliability manager and engineer for Georgia-Pacific, leading the maintenance team in keeping corrugated machines running well under safe conditions and developing or upgrading the production line to meet new customer requirements.  He has a master of science machine engineering degree.
