Developing TAPPI Standards

Standards are of the utmost importance in the pulp, paper and converting industries as they have a serious impact on business and trade. As a member, you are eligible to get involved in the process of developing new Standards for the industry.

How to Propose new Standards

Are you interested in proposing a new Standard? We encourage members to consult our complete list of subject categories for Standards below, or view the PDF list.

If you have a general idea for a Standard, you can complete the New Idea Submission Form. We will review your idea and identify the right committee or group to work on your suggestion.

If you already further along, you can send an initial draft to standards@tappi.org. A Standards manager will then work with you to develop a Standard-Specific Interest Group (SSIG) for the new Standard. This will set in motion the development and review process, which is described in the Standards Guidelines.

National Presto Sells Absorbent Products Unit (1/12/2017)

National Presto Industries Inc. reports that it has sold its absorbent products division to a Belgian company for $71 million. Eau Claire-based National Presto, which also has divisions that make ammunition for the military and small kitchen appliances for consumers, said the deal with Drylock Technologies Inc., unites the absorbent products segment with a major company in that industry while keeping local jobs.

A San Francisco judge has given preliminary approval to a settlement of a class action lawsuit involving the Kandoo brand of flushable wipes. The settlement potentially affects people who purchased the wipes in California between March 21, 2010 and Dec. 9, 2016.

Cenveo Appoints New Director (1/13/2017)

Cenveo, Inc. (NYSE: CVO) holder of the Cenveo Envelope Group, one of the largest manufacturers of paper envelopes with a global supply base, announced this past week that James Moorhead has joined its board of directors, effective immediately. Moorhead is currently the CMO at Metromile, a leader in pay-per-mile car insurance, where he is responsible for all marketing efforts. Prior to that, he spent three years at Dish Network as SVP, CMO, and served on their executive leadership team. Previously, Moorehead spent 11 years with Proctor & Gamble in senior marketing roles, working with healthcare and grooming brands such as Prilosec OTC, Vicks, Gillette, and Old Spice.

Poll Shows Lack of Understanding about Food Contaminated Corrugated Packaging (1/09/2017)

Research commissioned by the Confederation of Paper Industries (CPI), U.K., has revealed that when asked to choose who is most responsible for ensuring that recyclable packaging from the home is of good enough quality to be recycled, 45% of respondents said the onus was on the household, while 38% believed that it was down to the packaging manufacturers or the reprocessors of recyclable material, with a further 8% believing it should be down to local authorities.

Laurino Elected to Appvion Board of Directors (1/18/2017)

Appvion, Inc., Appleton, Wis., USA, this week announced that Carl J. Laurino has been elected to its board of directors. Laurino served as SVP and CFO of The Manitowoc Co. from 2004 until June 2016.
