Comprehensive Format:

Comprehensive videos and figure based visuals presented by subject matter experts.

Chemical Recovery

  • Includes chemical recovery operations, terminology, equipment and process variables.

Environmental Control

  • U.S. Environmental laws and regulations, air emission compounds and sources, air treatment options, activated sludge and aerated lagoon operation.

Pulp Manufacturing Technology, 2nd Edition

  • Overview of pulping, pulp processing & bleaching technology, process variables & equipment.

Pulp Properties & Testing Labs

  • These labs and videos demonstrate various procedures used to analyze raw materials such as wood, chips, pulping liquor, bleaching chemicals; and the resulting pulp.
  • They will also illustrate with video demonstrations the correct testing procedures.
  • They will also provide background information on the property being tested. The overall learning objective is to increase your understanding of why and how these tests and procedures are performed.

Technology and Science of Paper Recycling

  • Review of recycling processes and issues, including quality of the raw materials, requirements to be environmentally friendly and strategies to produce pulp at the lowest cost.

Concise Format:

Concise narrated animation of components and processes.

Bleaching

  • After wood chips are pulped, either by chemical or mechanical means, the resulting pulp has a brownish color. In order to create a white or lighter colored final product, the pulp much be bleached.
  • This course includes modules on Alkaline Extraction, Bleaching Equipment, Sequences and Filtrate Recycling, Chlorine Dioxide Generation, and Oxygen Delignification.

Environmental

  • Pulping and papermaking involves many industrial processes that require the safe handling of chemicals, gases, and water.
  • This course includes modules on CNCG Systems, Contaminated Condensate Systems, HVLC Systems, and Wastewater Systems.

Evaporators

  • At a kraft pulp mill, evaporators are used to remove water from the used pulping chemical solution in order to concentrate it. This is the first step in the process that is used to recover the chemicals so that they can be reused in the pulping process.
  • This course includes modules on Black Liquor Evaporator Operations, Equipment, Principles, and Testing.

Fiber Supply

  • Wood is the main source of the fibers used in the large-scale industrial production of paper-based products.
  • This course contains modules on how fiber is supplied to the pulping process including Log Handling and Chip Storage, Chip Screening, Paper Fiber Sources, and Wood Properties and Chip Quality Testing.

Kraft Pulping

  • The purpose of kraft pulping is to separate wood fibers from each other so that they can be used to produce paper and other cellulose fiber-based products. In chemical pulping, wood chips are cooked, or pulped, in large pressure vessels called digesters.
  • This course includes modules on Batch Cooking, Blow Line Refining, Brown Stock Systems, Digesters and Kraft Pulping By-Products.

Recaust

  • Recausticizing is the process of converting the chemicals in the spent cooking liquor back to their original form so that they can be re-used in the kraft pulping process. In other words, it changes green liquor back into white liquor.
  • This course includes modules on Dregs Washing, Electrostatic Precipitators, Exhaust Gas Scrubbers, Green Liquor Clarifiers, Lime Kilns, Lime Mud Filtering, Slaking and Causticizing, and more.

Recovery

  • Strong black liquor is burned in a recovery boiler to recover chemicals used in the making of pulp and harness the heat produced from the recovery process and convert it to steam energy.
  • This course includes modules on Fluidized Bed Boilers, Kraft Recovery Boilers, and Baghouses.

Supplemental and Recycled Fiber

  • Paper and board products are made from fibers from a variety of sources. Recycled and supplemental cellulose fibers from wood are one of the main sources.
  • This course includes modules on OCC and Supplemental and Recycled Fiber processes.
