Alkaline Pulping and Bleaching Committee - This committee focuses on: The process of alkaline pulping and related chemical recovery and regeneration, fiberizing, washing, screening, and other operations prior to stock preparation; the methods and apparatus for other operations such as fibrous raw materials preparation, bleaching, effluent treatment, and recovery of chemical products to the extent that these specifically influence or are influenced by the pulping processes. The investigation and dissemination of knowledge relating to the delignification and/or brightening of pulps of all yield ranges (other than for chemical conversion) by means of one or more chemical treatments; the preparation and evaluation of delignification and bleaching agents and solutions, and the developments of test methods relating to these processes. The investigation and dissemination of knowledge relating to the efficient supply, preparation, handling and storage of woody fiber raw material (including wood waste fuel) for other pulp, paper and paperboard industry.


Biorefinery Committee - This committee supports the advancement and application of biorefinery technologies within the pulp, paper, and general forest products industries throug planning the annual conference, identifying committee activities to share knowledge and provide solutions and receiving updates from the subcommittees.


Fiber Recycling Committee - The scope of the Fiber Recycling Committee is to promote the use of recycled fibers by serving as the means for a full and free exchange of technical information relating to the procurement, storage, processing, bleaching and other treatment of recycled fibers to produce a usable pulp.


MOTAG South - The Millyard Operating Technical Advancement Group, commonly known as MOTAG is a subcommittee of the Fiber Raw Materials Supply Committee in the Pulping Division of TAPPI. It was formed in April 1973, at the Airport Holiday Inn in Atlanta, Georgia.  At that meeting the groundwork for the subcommittee was laid. The organization has now grown to form the two subcommittees known as MOTAG-South and MOTAG-North. In 1991, another group MOTAG-West was formed.

The objective of the subcommittee was, and is, to provide a conduit for communications between the fiber industry, vendors, and consultants, to hear and discuss prepared presentations covering mill woodyard design and operational problems.

MOTAG South offers two scholarships to rising Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors enrolled in a southern school of Forest Resources/Operations.

MOTAG Northeast - Provides a conduit for communications between the fiber supply portion of the pulp and paper, lumber, biomass and other wood related industries to hear and discuss prepared presentation covering woodyard design and operation problems. By the very organization of the meeting there is ample opportunity to discuss specific problems and gain new ideas for solution among peers and vendors.


Nonwood Fibers Committee - The scope of the Nonwood Fibers Committee includes the study, development, and utilization of all nonwood plant fibers such as bagasse, cereal straws, rice straw, flax straws, cotton linters, bamboo, reeds, esparto grass, sabai grass and other grasses, bast fibers such as kenaf, jute, and crotalaria (Sunn-Hemp), and leaf fibers such as abaca, henequen, and sisal.


Pulp Manufacture Division Council - The Division Council is responsible for management and policy making of the division. The council is headed by the Division Chairperson and consists of the Division Officers, the Chairpersons of both Operating and Advisory Committees, the Immediate Past Division Chairperson and others as the Division Chairperson may from time to time appoint.
